重农抑商中国古代政治思想家和理财家提出的关于重视农业、抑制商业的财政经济政策思想。又称"重本抑末"。农业提供人类最基本的生活资料，在生产力发展水平还比较低的条件下,它是人们维持生存的物质基础,又是统治者剥削剩余产品的主要来源。因此重农或重本,是古代世界各国所普遍遵循的一项经济原则。在中国，重农更作为一种重要的经济思想，贯穿于中国古代经济思想发展的全过程。中国古代帝王多以重农标榜自己的贤圣；自春秋以来，儒家、道家、法家各学派在重视农业、轻视工商业方面也往往并无多大分歧。如孟子劝说梁惠王"不违农时",但却斥商人是"贱丈夫";李悝辅佐魏国所采取的政策,是"尽地力之教"和"禁技巧",即发展农业，抑止手工业；商鞅变法,对努力耕织者免除徭役,对从事工商而贫者,则沦为奴隶;荀况认为"工商众则国贫"；韩非则首称农为"本"，工商为"末"，把工商之民视为社会一害，称作"五蠹"之一。重本轻末的思想也由此形成。在封建社会前期，重农抑商思想对巩固新兴地主阶级政权,促进封建经济的发展曾起过积极作用。但是,随着生产的发展，封建社会以农业为主体的自然经济逐步被商品经济所取代，到了明清之际，重农抑商思想已经开始被黄宗羲的工商皆本论和郑观应的"以商立国"思想所扬弃。
