热解物质受热发生分解的反应过程。许多无机物质和有机物质被加热到一定程度时都会发生分解反应。热解过程不涉及催化剂，以及其他能量，如紫外线辐射所引起的反应。分类 按原料分为：无机物热解 有工业意义的无机物热解反应如碳酸氢钠焙烧生成碳酸钠： 2NaHCO3─→Na2CO3+H2O+CO2石灰石（碳酸钙）焙烧生成生石灰（氧化钙）： CaCO3─→CaO+CO2氧化汞热解生成元素汞： 2HgO─→O2+2Hg氯酸钾热解生成高氯酸钾： 4KClO3─→3KClO4+KCl有机物热解 有工业意义的有机物热解过程很多，常因具体工艺过程而有不同的名称。在隔绝空气下进行的热解反应，称为干馏，如煤干馏、木材干馏；甲烷热解生成炭黑称为热分解；烷基苯或烷基萘热解生成苯或萘常称为热脱烷基(见脱烷基)；由丙酮制乙烯酮称为丙酮裂解等。烃类的热解过程常区别为热裂化和裂解（见烃类裂解）。前者的温度通常＜600℃,其目的是由重质油生产轻质油，进而再加工成发动机燃料。后者则温度较高（通常＞700℃）,且物料在反应器中停留时间较短，其目的是获得石油化工的基本原料如乙烯、丙烯、丁二烯、芳烃等。一般说来，无机物的热解反应比较简单；有机物热解时，由于会产生副反应，产物组成往往比较复杂。例如石油烃裂解时，除获得低分子量烯烃外，还有因聚合、缩合等副反应，而生成比原料分子量更大的产物，如焦油等。供热方式 热解过程需要吸收大量热能。工业上的供热方式可分为自热过程和外热过程。例如石灰石热解生成石灰，温度在800℃以上,甚至在氧存在下也不影响反应过程，因此可采用直接煅烧的工业窑炉进行外供热过程。对于石油馏分的裂解，反应温度在750℃以上,且要求尽可能低的烃分压，产物为可燃气体，因此常用间壁传热方式（如管式炉裂解）或由载热体直接供热（如蓄热炉裂解、砂子炉裂解、高温水蒸气裂解等）的外热过程。但也可以用烧去一部分原料进行自热过程，如天然气或重油部分燃烧热解制乙炔、炭黑等。由于管式炉裂解制低碳烯烃的优越性很多，近代石油烃裂解几乎都采用此法。
