星表星表starcatalogue记载天体各种参数（位置、自行、视向速度、星等、光谱型、视差等）的表册。通过天文观测编制星表是天文学中最早开展的工作之一。公元前4世纪，中国战国时代天文学家石申所编的《石氏星经》，载有121颗恒星的位置。这是世界上最古老的星表。按照编制方法和用途区分，星表有下列几种：①绝对星表。由绝对测定编制的星表。星表内恒星的位置是独立测定的，与其他已知的位置值无关，观测中各种系统误差尽可能加以消除，这种测量方法称为恒星位置的绝对测定。②基本星表。为了尽可能消除和减少各星表间的系统误差和偶然误差的影响，将各个不同系统的绝对星表进行综合处理后得到的高精度的星表。基本星表主要用于作为天文参考坐标系和恒星位置的相对测定时的定标星系统。主要的基本星表有：奥韦尔斯基本星表，最初发表于1879年和1883年，包括NFK，FK3，FK4直到FK5的一个系列，共1535颗基本恒星和大量的补篇星；纽康星表，1872年发表，共1257颗恒星；博斯星表，最初于19出版的PGC星表，1937年编成总星表（GC星表）共33342颗恒星；N30星表，1952年发表，共5268颗恒星。③相对星表。利用通过定标量的位置作相对测定而得的恒星位置编成的星表。其中用照相方法作相对测定而得的称为照相星表。主要的相对星表有：德国天文学会星表，19发表AGK1星表，1951～1958年间发表AGK2星表(共183000颗恒星)，1973年修订后为AGK3星表；耶鲁星表，用1914～1956年的观测编成，共15万颗恒星；好望角星表，1968年编成，共7万颗星。④其他的位置星表。这是一些为特殊目的而编成的星表，包括：暗星星表；黄道星表；史密松星表，1966年美国史密松天文台为满足人造卫星照相定位所编制，共258997颗星；测地星表等。⑤有关天体物理量的星表，主要有：恒星光谱型表、恒星三角视差总表、变星星表、双星和特定类型恒星表，太阳系天体和人造天体星表、银河系其他天体星表、河外天体星表、射电源表、红外、紫外、远紫外、X射线和γ射线波段的辐射源表等。现代天文学的发展，使恒星位置、自行和距离的测定精度不断改善。依巴谷卫星升空后正在获取高质量的观测结果，其星表的质量将有以数量级计的提高。
