公路大件运输指公路运输中对庞大、沉重而又不可分割的整体货物的运输。大件在体积和重量上超过了普通载货汽车容许的装载容积和重量，并超过了公路线形和桥涵通过能力的规定限界，运输时就要采取一定的工程技术和运输组织措施。发展简况 古代，在陆上运输大件是利用简单的工具,依靠大量人力或畜力拖曳,或是利用冬季泼水成冰覆盖路面后再进行拖曳。近代电力和机械工业出现后，人们应用电机、卷扬机（或其他牵引机械）、滑轮组、钢丝绳、滚杠、千斤顶和枕木等，以滚拖的方法进行大件运输。直到今天，这种方法仍用于公路大件运输，特别是在运距不长而又缺乏大型起重设备的水路运输或铁路运输装卸地点常被采用。随着现代大工业的发展，化工、石油、冶金和电力等工业所用设备的体积和重量日益增大，一件设备往往重达百吨到几百吨，宽高可达五、六米，长可达几十米，甚至更多。这类大件的长途运输，有些可以利用水路运输或铁路运输，在没有水路或铁路的地区，或者由于水路运输受航道深度和桥梁净空等限制，铁路运输受隧道、桥梁、车站限界等限制，因而不得不利用限制条件较少、困难易于克服的公路运输；而且几乎所有水路和铁路大件运输的目的地，距离码头或铁路车站的这段路程最终也要由公路运输来完成。在这种客观需要的情况下，超重型汽车列车逐步兴起。利用超重型汽车列车的现代化公路大件运输在工业发达国家开始于20世纪60年代初期。中国于1967年在上海首次进行这种公路大件运输；70年代中期以后得到迅速发展。近十年中，先后运过整体重量达500多吨的特重设备，长度超过70米的特长设备,以及宽达 9米多、高达12米多、长近20米的特宽、特高设备。运用超重型汽车列车的技术性能来运输现代工业的大型设备，安全而又快速。80年代初，在一些国家兴起一种称作"模件"建厂的新工艺，即将工厂分成若干单元建造。建成后，将各个单元（即模件）运往建设工地组装。这种模件，重量从几百吨到几千吨，长、宽、高各可达几十米。运输这类大件，也可用超重型汽车列车。此外，还可用一种称作自走式的平板车组来载运。措施 运输大件，因车货总重、外廓尺寸等超过公路规定限界，需要向有关交通管理部门申报，采取必要的工程技术和运输组织措施。运输前，要查清所运大件的重量、尺寸、重心和支点位置,配备相应的车辆,落实所经路段、桥涵的承载能力，公路宽度、弯道半径、纵坡、路拱的几何尺寸，立交和隧道等结构物的净空限界，公路上空电线和两侧的障碍物等情况，制定运输方案。对于不适于超重型汽车列车通过的路段要改建，桥涵要加固,障碍要排除,或者采取临时措施，如绕道行驶、搭建便桥、修建便道等。对于重量和尺寸特殊的大件，必要时应先进行行车模拟试验，以检验所经公路能否通过。实际运输时，交通管理部门要事先向群众公告并临时分段封闭交通，由指挥车、高空架线车等开道，以排除各种干扰和上空障碍。通过大城市时，还可根据情况安排在夜间运输，以减少对城市正常交通的影响。（见彩图）
