烃烃hydrocarbon由碳和氢两种元素组成的一类有机化合物。在烃分子中碳原子互相连接，形成碳链或碳环状的分子骨架，一定数目的氢原子连在碳原子上，使每个碳原子保持四价。烃的最重要来源是石油和天然气，以及炼焦过程中产生的煤焦油。烃的最重要用途是作为交通运输和工业的动力，以及生活用的燃料，如汽油、柴油、液化石油气、沼气等；其次是作为化学工业的原料。大多数烃为液体或固体，分子中碳原子的数目不超过5的烃在室温（20℃）下为气体。烃在水中的溶解度很小或不溶于水。液体烃的相对密度小于1。不同的烃往往可以互相溶解。所有的烃都能燃烧。烃可以根据结构分成三大类：①脂链烃。烃分子中碳原子连接成没有分支的直链或有分支的支链。脂链烃包括饱和烃和不饱和烃。饱和烃分子中碳原子之间只以单键相连；不饱和烃分子中有的碳原子以双键或叁键相联。②脂环烃。烃分子中碳原子互相连接成闭合的碳环。脂环烃分子中可含有一个、两个或多个环，可以是饱和的或不饱和的。③芳烃。分子中含有苯环的烃。
