地震带地震带seismicbelt过去多次发生强烈地震而中小地震又比较密集的地带。地震带的形成与地球表层的构造运动有关。全球有五大地震带,即美洲西海岸地震带、太平洋西北边缘地震带、大洋岛弧地震带、亚欧地震带、全球海岭及裂谷系地震带。前三个地震带过去曾合称环太平洋地震带,这里是全球几个大板块的边界地带。海洋板块在边界处向地幔中消减,造成板块边界附近地区强烈的构造运动,从而形成全球最大的地震带。这里浅源地震能量约占全球的75%,中深源地震约占全球的89%,深源地震则是100%。亚欧地震带处于欧亚大陆南部与非洲板块、印度-澳洲板块的边界地带,这里没有明显的板块消减运动,但印-澳板块与亚洲大陆的碰撞形成喜马拉雅山系的造山运动,非洲板块与欧洲部分的板块碰撞形成阿尔卑斯山系的造山运动。这两个造山运动都带来地震活动,形成从地中海沿岸经土耳其、伊朗一直到中国的亚欧地震带。这里浅源地震能量约占全球的23%,中深源地震占11%。全球海岭系主要是印度洋海岭、东太平洋海岭和大西洋海岭,其中印度洋海岭又同东非裂谷带相连,故合称全球海岭及裂谷系地震带。这个地震带也与构造运动有关。在海岭中心线的大洋中脊,地幔物质上升成为新生的板块,在中脊附近的转换断层是经常发生中小地震之处,偶而也有7级左右地震发生。在小尺度的区域内,每个国家也可以按地震活动性的不同划分小规模的地震带。例如中国,划分23个地震活动带。
