体用体用中国古代哲学基本范畴。体指形体、本体或实体，用指作用、功用或属性。在中国哲学发展过程中，逐渐形成有体有用、体用一如的思维模式。体用范畴被赋予多种涵义。主要为两种：①指实体同它的作用、功能、属性的关系。②指本质与现象或根据与表现的关系。体用二字最早见于《易经》：“故神无方而易无体”、“显诸仁，藏诸用”。这里已蕴含后来作为哲学范畴的基本涵义。魏晋时体和用成为一对哲学范畴。宋代以后，体用范畴被广泛使用。程颐提出“体用一源，显微无间”说。他所谓体，指本原、本体；所谓用，指显现、作用。他认为隐微的理与显著的象二者统一，没有间隙。近代张之洞倡“中学为体西学为用”，他所谓体与用，是指主要和次要、根本和从属的区别。孙中山认为体即物质，用即精神：“人之一身，五官百骸，皆为体，属于物质；其能言动作，即为用，由人之精神为之。”
