针灸针灸中国传统医学的组成部分。可专指针灸疗法，即通过针刺与艾灸调整脏腑经络气血的功能，以达到防治疾病的目的。也可用来表示整个针灸学科，包括经络、腧穴、针灸方法及临床治疗等内容。针灸起源于中国原始社会。早在新石器时代，人们就利用锐利的小石片（即砭石）砭刺人体的某一部位来治疗疾病。在火的发现和应用之后，人们逐渐发现身体的某一部位受到火的烤灼，可以减轻病痛或有舒适感觉，这是早期的针灸术。战国时期，随着铁器的推广应用，砭石逐渐被金属制造的九针所取代，带来了针灸术的飞跃发展。1973年在长沙马王堆汉墓中出土了两种记载经脉的帛书，大约撰于战国时期，是中国现存最早的经脉理论专著。战国时期的《黄帝内经》，对经络、腧穴、针灸的适应症、禁忌症及其治疗原理等都作了详细论述。东汉、三国及两晋南北朝时期，针灸有了进一步发展，特别是晋代医家皇甫谧，将《黄帝内经》、《明堂孔穴针灸治要》等书的针灸内容，汇而为一，撰为《针灸甲乙经》，成为一部从基础到临床构成完整体系的针灸专著，对后世针灸学的发展产生了很大影响。隋唐时期，针灸发展成为一个专门学科，当时的医学教育机构太医署里设有针汉代针灸专用针棗金针（河北满城中山靖王刘胜墓出土）灸专业。宋代，在政府的支持下，医官王惟一考订了354个腧穴的位置及所属经脉，增补了腧穴的主治病证，撰成《新铸铜人腧穴针灸图经》，由政府刊刷颁行，次年又铸铜人模型两具，为最早的针灸模型，对针灸学的发展起了很大的促进作用。明代，针灸学的发展达到高潮，产生了大量的针灸著作，最有代表性的是杨继洲的《针灸大成》，收编资料十分丰富。这一时期，灸法从用艾炷的烧灼灸法向用艾卷的温热灸法发展。清代医者重药而轻针，针灸逐渐转入低潮。1949年中华人民共和国建立后，针灸学有了很大发展。到1990年，中国已有75个科研单位设置针灸经络研究机构，23所中医学院设置了5年制的针灸学专业，遍布全国的2000余所中医医院设有针灸科。这些机构的建立，使针灸学在临床、教学、科研等方面都有很大的发展。针灸学术在国际上的影响也日益扩大，各国针灸学术组织的交流活动，推动了国际针灸事业的发展。汉代针灸专用针——金针（河北满城中山靖王刘胜墓出土）针灸疗法种类很多，包括针刺疗法、灸法和后世发展起来的腧穴特种疗法。针灸疗法依据经络学说选穴施术，在临床上又经常配合使用。主要应用于4个方面：①针灸治疗。治疗临床各科的病证，包括许多功能性疾病，传染性疾病和某些器质性疾病，尤其对各种疼痛，感觉障碍、运动障碍，以及各种功能失调的病证效果更为显著。②针灸保健。作为保健的手段之一，能提高机体免疫力，增强对疾病的防御能力，起增强体质，预防疾病的作用。③针刺麻醉。有镇痛和调节人体生理功能的作用。效果较好的有甲状腺切除术、子宫全切除术、剖腹产、输卵管结扎术和拔牙等。④经络腧穴诊断。依据经络循行，通过检查腧穴的病理反应，以判断病位、病证、病性及其虚实等。
