浑浊度简称浊度。水质参数之一，反映用水和天然水清亮程度。水的浑浊由微细的悬浮颗粒造成，将用水与已知浊度的标准浑水相比较来测定。测定浊度的标准仪器是杰克孙烛光浊度计。它由带有浊度刻度的标准玻璃管、支持管子与遮蔽管壁的支架和标准烛等构成。杰克孙浊度计的刻度是以当时的标准浑水为准的。标准浑水用标准天然土（如漂白土）配制，其含土量（以毫克/升计）的值,即为浑浊度。只能直接用于测定浊度大于25度的水样，对低浊水使用很不方便。此外，测得结果往往因人而异。因此，大多改用光线照射浑水时的散射光强度比较水样和标准液以测定水的浊度，使用的仪器称散射浊度计。用这两种不同的方法测得的结果基本相同。为区别起见，国外分别以杰克孙烛光单位（符号JTU）和散射浊度单位(符号NTU)表示。近年来，国际上又有采用甲聚合物配制成的标准液和散射浊度计测定浊度的,以甲浊度单位（符号FTU）表示。对生活饮用水和某些高质量工业用水，浑浊度是一个重要的水质参数，中国1976年颁布的生活饮用水水质标准规定，浊度不超过5度。
