高功率脉冲技术高功率脉冲技术highpowerimpulsetechnique研究高电压、大电流、高功率短脉冲的产生和应用的技术。最初是应材料响应实验、闪光X射线照相及模拟核武器效应的需要而出现的。1962年英国的J.C.马丁成功地将已有的Marx发生器与传输线技术结合起来，产生了持续时间短达纳秒级的高功率脉冲，从而开辟了这一崭新的领域。随之，高技术领域如受控热核聚变研究、高功率粒子束、大功率激光、定向束能武器、电磁轨道炮等的研制都对高功率脉冲技术的发展提出了新的要求，使高功率脉冲技术成为80年代极为活跃的研究领域之一。高功率脉冲系统的主要参量有：脉冲能量（千焦～吉焦），脉冲功率（吉瓦～太瓦），脉冲电流（千安～兆安），脉冲宽度（微秒～纳秒）和脉冲电压。高功率脉冲系统的工作原理是，先将从低功率能源中获得的能量储存起来，然后将这些能量经高功率脉冲发生器转变成高功率脉冲，并传给负载。由一定的能量所转换成的脉冲持续时间愈短，在负载上得到的功率愈高。能源所提供的可以是电能、磁能、化学能或其他形式的能。高功率脉冲发生器由Marx发生器（或电容器组）和脉冲形成回路共同组成，又称脉冲发电机。80年代建在英国的欧洲联合环（托卡马克装置），由脉冲发电机提供脉冲大电流。脉冲发电机由两台各带有9米直径、重量为775吨的大飞轮的发电机组成。发电机由8.8兆瓦的电动机驱动，大飞轮用来储存准备提供产生大功率脉冲的能量。每隔10分钟脉冲发电机可以产生一个持续25秒左右的500万安大电流脉冲。
