中国历史地理中国是历史悠久的国家。中国人民的祖先很早就劳动、生息在中国广阔的土地上，不断地改造周围的自然界,使中国的地理环境在全新世以来约1万年的时间里起了很大的变化。早期的这种变化幅度不甚显著。在中国各族人民相继进入新石器时代后，生产工具不断改进及由此引起社会制度的种种变革和人们对自然界愈来愈多的索取，对中国地理环境的变化产生了巨大影响，尤其对以下3方面，影响更为显著：① 自然环境。在中国历史时期中，自然环境各要素的变化及其在变化过程中的相互影响极其复杂，如气候、植被、河流、海岸、沙漠等方面均历经变迁（见中国历史时期气候和植被的变迁、中国历史时期东部平原的水系变迁、中国历史时期海岸线的变迁、中国历史时期沙漠的变迁）。② 疆域和政区。中华民族大家庭中每一个成员在历史时期劳动、生息的范围及其所建立的政权疆域和政区，都是中国历史上疆域和政区不可分割的部分。中国现今的疆域和政区是4000多年来以华夏族为主体政权与周围各族的部落、部族和政权长期融合中逐渐形成的(见中国历代疆域变迁、中国历代政区沿革)。③ 社会经济环境。 中国大约在1万年前就有了原始农业。以后随畜牧业和种植业的分离、手工业和农业的分工，以及因自然社会条件不同而造成各地区之间经济上的差异，剩余农牧产品和手工业产品的交换就成为社会的需要，商业活动也由此兴起并渐趋繁荣，于是相应地出现沟通各地区之间的交通路线、商业聚落和城市，并不断地演变、发展（见中国历史时期北部农牧界线的变迁、中国历史时期主要农业区的变迁、中国历史时期蚕桑、植棉业和纺织业的分布和变迁、中国历史时期人口的分布和迁徙、中国历史时期城市分布和交通路线的变迁）。
