天津文庙
文庙，还叫孔庙、夫子庙、文宣王庙、至圣庙等，是天津历史上等级最高的古建筑群、也是天津今天保存下来的最大古建筑群。据史料记载，在孔子死后第二年，鲁国国君哀公命令将孔子阙里的三间故宅，改做庙堂，岁时奉祀。后来唐太宗诏令全国“州县学皆立孔庙。”于是历代相袭，到明清时期，全国孔庙已达1560多座。天津文庙建于1436年。1404年天津设卫建城，1405年和1406年，又增设天津左卫和天津右卫，管辖海河以南沿南运河至德州以东地区，卫卒16800人，加上家属，人数不在少数。这些卫卒子弟能否上学，直接影响到军心，甚至影响到地方的稳定，因此教育就成了当务之急。再加上永乐皇帝设都北京之后，天津在当时很快成了水路和旱路的交通枢纽，人口迅速膨胀，这些从各地齐集到天津的人口，也面临迫切需要教育的问题。1436年，提学御史程富提出上奏，要求在天津设立卫学。于是天津左卫指挥使朱胜将自己的一处住宅捐出，做为学宫校址，至此天津建起了第一所官办学校。唐太宗诏令的“州县学皆立孔庙”，也就规定了，在设立学校的同时，就要修建文庙。历史上曾经将官办学校称作庙学，也是这个原因。因此天津文庙可以说是与天津卫学同时兴建的。唐代最初建成的文庙，并不是我们现在看到的样子，而只是校内一座奉祀孔子的殿堂而已。到了宋代初年，文庙的建筑开始完善并开始逐渐与学校分离，大体上形成了“左庙右学”的建筑格局。
