黄河故道鸟类湿地国家自然保护区黄河故道鸟类湿地国家自然保护区位于河南省卫辉、延津两县（市）接壤的大沙河地段和封丘县境内的黄河滩涂和背河洼地，面积24780公顷，1988年经河南省人民政府批准建立，1996年晋升为国家级，主要保护对象为天鹅、鹤类等珍禽及内陆湿地生态系统。本区地处我国暖温带向亚热带的过渡区，其地貌特征为黄河改道后历史遗留下来的背河洼地、槽形洼地和广阔的黄河滩涂，水源来自汛期的地表径流、引黄退水和地下水，是我国中原人口稠密地区难得的一块天然湿地。区内生态环境多样，物种丰富，动植物区系成分复杂，是南北方动植物类群交汇处及通道，也是鸟类南北迁徙的主要途径和华北水禽越冬的北界。目前已发现鸟类有130余种，其中国家重点保护的珍稀鸟类有白鹳、白头鹤、白鹤、大鸨、天鹅、灰鹤等39种，列入中日、中澳候鸟保护协定的候鸟有80余种，每年在此路过、停留、栖息、越冬和繁殖的候鸟达数万只，这在我国内陆平原人口稠密地区实属罕见，因此，更显示出保护的必要性和紧迫性。
