中国儿童艺术剧院中国儿童剧团体。前身是1941年在延安成立的延安青年艺术剧院附属儿童艺术学园。后几经易名，1949年成为中国青年艺术剧院儿童队，1953年改建为中国少年儿童剧团。1956年6月1日，由文化部正式命为现名。历任院长任虹、周来、方掬芬等。剧院以广大少年儿童为主要服务对象，努力创建社会主义的、民族的、有益于少年儿童身心健康并为他们喜闻乐见的戏剧,同时，也介绍世界优秀名著,以崇高的精神、优美的艺术陶冶观众情操，提高审美情趣。在艺术形式上，剧院既继承民族传统，也借鉴国外艺术，探索富于民族气派、儿童情趣与时代感的体裁、风格与样式。剧院50年代至60年代演出的《马兰花》、《小白兔》、《岳云》、《宝船》、《以革命的名义》、《革命的一家》、《英雄少年刘文学》等剧产生了广泛的影响。《马兰花》获第一届全国话剧观摩演出会演出一等奖。《以革命的名义》被拍摄成电影。"文化大革命"中剧院被迫停办，1978年恢复建制后，剧院更致力于创新探索，成功地塑造了周恩来形象的《报童》曾赢得广泛好评。《奇怪的101》、《寒丹鸟的秘密》、《闪烁吧，繁星》、《我要当冠军》、《13+1=X》等剧刻画了当今少年儿童的心态与追求。外国儿童剧《十二个月》、《乞丐与王子》、《快乐的汉斯》的导演构思和体现均有新的开掘。其中《报童》在中华人民共和国文化部建国三十周年献礼文艺演出中，获演出与创作一等奖,《奇怪的101》获演出一等奖、创作二等奖，《寒丹鸟的秘密》获1980～1982年全国戏剧创作优秀奖，《喜歌》与《闪烁吧，繁星》在1982年全国儿童剧观摩演出中均获演出与创作双优秀奖。在长期的艺术实践中，剧院造就出一批艺术人才。其中有导演周来、陈颙等；编剧罗英、柯岩；演员方掬芬、覃琨等。
