磁环境试验在地面可控制的磁环境中检测和分析试件的磁特性。航天器多进行这种试验。航天器上采用的永磁性和感磁性材料会产生磁场，航天器工作时的回路电流也会产生杂散磁场。这些永磁场、感磁场和杂散磁场与空间磁场的相互作用,产生对航天器的干扰力矩,影响航天器的定向和定点精度，降低运行寿命。对于测量空间磁场分布的航天器，更需要取得航天器本身的磁场数据。采用磁姿态控制系统的航天器还要在模拟运动磁场环境下进行航天器姿态控制系统的试验。通过这些磁环境试验，可获得准确的磁特性数据，验证和改进航天器的磁净化设计。磁试验设备 磁环境试验设备包括三轴线圈系统、充退磁线圈系统、电源系统、磁干扰控制系统、电控测量系统和试验转台等部分。线圈中通以适当的电流，在线圈系统中心的一定区域内将产生高均匀度、高稳定度的可控磁场(直流稳定场、交流磁场、旋转磁场等)，对这种磁场矢量的大小和方向加以控制，即可在地面模拟零磁环境、任意磁场环境和旋转磁场环境。零磁环境模拟的均匀性受线圈设计、设备的材料和加工装配精度的影响，其稳定度取决于电源系统的稳定度和对地磁波动、工业随机干扰是否采取补偿。通常用饱和式磁强计（磁通门磁强计）、焦利文磁强计、光泵以及核旋式、超导式、磁膜式磁强计等来测量磁场。磁试验方法 试验方法决定于试验物的大小、磁矩大小、测量精度和试验条件。常用的方法有力矩法和作图法。力矩法是用一种测量极弱力矩的仪器──力矩计，先测出航天器的干扰力矩，然后根据线圈系统提供的已知磁场数据算出航天器的剩磁矩。作图法是一种间接测量法，分球面作图法和赤道作图法两种。球面作图法是在零磁环境下测量包围航天器的某个球面上的若干径向磁场分量，用球谐分析理论求出航天器的剩磁矩。赤道作图法是测量航天器赤道平面内不同位置处的 3个方向的磁场分量，或者测量垂直于赤道平面轴上与中心对称的两点的诸磁场分量，用傅里叶分析和最小二乘法求出航天器的剩磁矩。力矩法多用于小型试验物的磁矩测定，作图法在航天器的磁矩测定中使用较多。如果精度要求不高，也可在寂静的地磁场中测定航天器的磁特性。
