海底热液矿床海底热液矿床submarinehydrothermaldeposits同海底热泉有关的多金属硫化物矿床。海底热泉自海底喷口喷出。发生于海洋脊轴附近。1965年在红海首次发现。1977年伍兹霍尔海洋研究所R.巴拉德等乘阿尔文号潜水器在加拉帕戈斯裂谷发现的热泉及1977年在北纬21°的东太平洋海隆观察到温度最高达380±30℃的热泉,其热液刚喷出时清澈透明,与海水相混时遇冷便激起混浊的碱性水柱,并析出很细小的铁、铜、锌等的硫化物颗粒,它们堆积在热泉口旁,成为海底热液矿床。矿床类型已发现的超过11处,依产出位置可分为:大洋中脊型、岛弧-边缘海型、热点型和活动断裂型。东太平洋海隆热液矿床属大洋中脊型。以北纬21°处的为例:热泉分布在长仅7千米、宽不过200~300米的狭长条带内,喷口多达25个;各高温喷口周围有块状的金属硫化物堆积,高1~5米,状如黑烟囱,这些沉淀物主要是磁黄铁矿,夹杂着黄铁矿、闪锌矿和铜铁的硫化物;喷口附近水样中He和He的总含量甚高,表明有来自地幔的物质。红海热液矿床以阿特兰蒂斯-Ⅱ号深渊为例:底部为软泥覆盖层,由砖红色软泥与白色、黑色、绿色的薄层相间;主要矿物为细粒的铁蒙脱石、针铁矿、水锰矿、锰菱铁矿及多种金属的硫化物;矿床规模很大,估计锌储量可达320万吨,铜80万吨,铅8万吨,银4500吨,金45吨。
