《美韩共同防御条约》美国同韩国签订的军事同盟条约。《朝鲜停战协定》签订后的第12天,即1953年8月8日,在汉城草签，同年10月1日在华盛顿签订,1954年11月17日生效，无限期有效。条约声称："任何一方认为一方的政治独立或安全受到外来武装进攻威胁时，将进行共同磋商。缔约双方将单独地或联合地,以自助和互助的办法,保持并发展适当方法以制止武装进攻"；"在太平洋地区对缔约任何一方目前各自行政控制下的领土的进攻，或是对以后经缔约一方承认合法地处于另一方行政控制下的领土的进攻,都将危及它自己的和平与安全，因此声明,它将按照它的宪法程序采取行动以对付共同的危险。"根据条约，美国取得在韩国"领土以内及其周围部署陆、空、海军部队的权利"等。缔约后,美国不断将大批武器运入韩国,加强韩国军队，并在仁川等地建立军事基地；在汉城设立"韩美联合司令部"；美国和韩国军队经常举行联合军事演习，1983年上半年举行的一次大规模军事演习，参加的兵力达18万人。条约的签订加剧了朝鲜半岛的紧张局势，阻挠了朝鲜的和平统一。
