丁烯也称正丁烯,正构C4烯烃的统称,有三种异构体:均为易燃、易爆、易液化的气体。工业上主要由碳四馏分分离获得。不同来源碳四馏分中丁烯含量(质量)有所不同。催化裂化所得C4馏分中约含1-丁烯13%、顺-2-丁烯12%、反-2-丁烯13%;裂解C4馏分中约含1-丁烯14%、顺-2-丁烯5%、反-2-丁烯6%。由C4馏分分离丁烯各异构体时,一般是先分出丁二烯和异丁烯,然后再对剩余物料进行精馏(或异构化、吸附等),即可获得纯度高于99%的1-丁烯。丁烯在一些化工利用中(如水合制仲丁醇)三种异构体均可作为原料,而丁烷、异丁烷作为惰性物又不影响反应。因此,在这些场合下,不必进行丁烯间的分离,也不必进行丁烯、正丁烷和异丁烷的分离。另外,还有一些方法可以合成1-丁烯或2-丁烯。如在钛酸酯(丁酯或芳酯)及三乙基铝存在下,使乙烯进行二聚反应,可获得1-丁烯。乙烯在镍催化剂作用下进行齐聚反应生成长链α-烯烃时,也生成相当数量 1-丁烯;丙烯进行歧化反应时,可生成乙烯和2-丁烯。此法曾进行工业生产,目前已停产。在许多场合,1-丁烯和2-丁烯无需分离,可一起进行化学加工生产许多重要基本有机化工产品,如水合为促丁醇进而生产甲基乙基酮,氧化脱氢制丁二烯,催化氧化制顺丁烯二酸酐以及醋酸。1-丁烯在高分子化工中可聚合制成具有高温耐蠕变性、耐磨性及耐应力开裂性的聚1-丁烯,与乙烯共聚为线型低密度聚乙烯(见聚乙烯)。后者是一种新兴的聚合物。
