《儿童文学》现代儿童文学刊物。以小学高年级和初中学生为主要读者对象,由共青团中央和中国作家协会联合创办。1963年10月创刊于北京。当时由国内儿童文学界知名人氏叶圣陶、华君武、任虹、严文井、张天翼、金近、胡奇、袁鹰、谢冰心等组成编委会,由儿童文学作家金近主持日常编辑工作。办刊方案提出:"刊物必须有力地贯彻以共产主义教育为前提的百花齐放的方针,使作品的题材和形式多样化,对作家在创作上良好的探索和尝试,要加以爱护和支持。""刊物的读者对象以少年为主,照顾儿童文学爱好者。刊物注重作品的思想性和艺术性的完整统一,力求达到当前我国儿童文学创作的中上水平。"并提出要通过刊物的编辑工作和编委会的活动,对团结新老作家、扩大儿童文学创作队伍、繁荣创作起到促进作用。刊物得到新老作家的热情支持。创刊初期,冰心、臧克家、金近、袁鹰、菡子、秦牧、茹志鹃、闻捷、柯岩、刘真、葛翠林、任大霖、刘厚明等都为它积极撰稿。有影响的儿童小说《苦牛》(胡景芳),童话《狐狸打猎人的故事》(金近)、《谁丢了尾巴》(鲁克)和儿童诗《眼泪潭》(柯原)等优秀作品,都是首先在《儿童文学》上发表的。"文化大革命"期间,刊物被迫停刊。1977年8月正式复刊。复刊后,新增加叶君健、刘心武、刘厚明、陈模、柯岩、韩作黎等6位编委。复刊后两年间,共出版不定期丛刊6期。从1979年下半年起,改为双月刊;1981年起又改为月刊。《儿童文学》以发表短篇儿童小说为主,兼登诗歌、童话、寓言、散文、剧本、曲艺和外国优秀儿童文学作品。在1980年举办的第二次全国少年儿童文艺创作评奖中,该刊共有12篇作品获奖,居同类刊物的首位。为了繁荣儿童文学创作,该刊从1978年起举办优秀作品评奖活动,到1983年底止,已举办4次,共有113篇作品获奖。
