攀枝花苏铁国家级自然保护区攀枝花苏铁国家级自然保护区位于四川攀枝花市郊区，面积1400公顷，1983年经原渡口市人民政府批准建立，1996年晋升为国家级，主要保护对象为攀枝花苏铁林。本区地处川滇两省交界处，气候属南亚热带气候类型，区内分布有目前世界上面积最大、株数最多、分布最集中的野生苏铁林，共有攀枝苏铁约23万株。攀枝花苏铁是1971年发现的苏铁新种，1981年才正式定名，1984年被列入我国第一批珍稀濒危保护植物名录，属于世界性珍稀濒危残遗物种，是植物界的“活化石”。该物种出现在2亿7千万年前的古生代，是经过第四纪冰川浩劫而在金沙江河谷孑遗至今的最为古老的种子植物之一，因而它同时具有稀有性、珍贵性、古老性三个特点，对研究我国横断山脉植物区系的发生和发展，研究古生物、古生态、古地质、古地理以及种子植物的起源和演化都具有十分重要的科学价值。
